The Indian Wells Valley groundwater basin encompasses an area of approximately 540 square miles and is generally defined by the mountain ranges surrounding the valley.

  • Recharge has been difficult to accurately characterize
  • Current production is approximately 25,000 acre-feet per year.
  • Municipal uses account for 32%, agricultural uses account for 32%, industrial uses account for 12%, and miscellaneous well owners account for 24%.
  • Additional uses should be carefully considered.
  • Alternative water sources, including importation of water banking, is under review.
