of approximately 540 square miles and is generally defined
by the mountain ranges surrounding the valley.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE BASIN
- Complex hydrology is typical of California
- Recharge has been difficult to accurately characterize
- Current production is approximately 25,000 acre-feet per
year.
- Municipal uses account for 32%, agricultural uses account
for 32%, industrial uses account for 12%, and miscellaneous
well owners account for 24%.
- Additional uses should be carefully considered.
- Alternative water sources, including importation of water
banking, is under review.
